Marigolds by Stephanie Zari

Watched this Short Film last night . This is what in my mind after watched this short film .A superb film, beautify shot and the acting amazing, especially the mum. Little confused as to what the mum was doing? Was it a story about a husband and wife that have lost their love for each other, OR? Was it the mum fancied her own son, that’s hard watching, very odd?
So , this is what i get from Director(Stephanie Zari)
“These sorts of ‘family taboo’ topics and stories are hard to tackle, but I’m interested in peaking behind the closed doors of ‘normality’…a lot of women we auditioned for the main role said the story and role really made them think about their own marriages. Jane Guernier our actress was cast for the sadness and humanity she brought to the character”

Marigolds explores what goes on behind ‘closed doors’ of a seemingly normal family, living in a sleepy village. It exposes the fragile state of a 25-year lifeless and dull marriage, and in particular, the effect this has had on the state of mind of the mother.

Susannah is living a typically quiet and dusty life in the suburbs with her husband Paul, when an unexpected visit from her son, Piers, surfaces a dark secret that has been brewing since he left the nest 15 years ago. As Susannah struggles to come to terms with Piers’ relationship with his new girlfriend, her typical mediocre existence is slowly stripped away to reveal an obsession that is anything but typical… or secret.

‘Marigolds’ achieved festival and critical success, screening at over 15 festivals including the London Short Film Festival, Cambridge Film Festival and Underwire as well as several US festivals. It received rave reviews in both Little White Lies and Best for Film. Marigolds was acquired and broadcast by the BBC and aired on the final episode of BBC HD Shorts in March 2012. She was also honoured to receive the Best Director award for Marigolds at Underwire Film Festival.
